7 Daily Habits to Change Your Life Forever : And They Actually Worked for Me

6 min read

Background: Why the Way You Day Is More Important Than Your Goals

Everyone wants to achieve a better life, be it with more energy, more focus and more peace, or greater success. But the truth is that in our lives, we often spend too much time concentrating on big goals instead of the daily habits we are building right now. To put it bluntly, life does not change overnight; life changes one day at a time.

For many years I chased after motivation, big plans and huge transformations, yet nothing ever stuck. The only thing that finally worked for me were boring, repeatable little habits that I accomplished on a daily basis. There was no magic; there were no shortcuts. There was simply consistency.

You may think of your daily habits like water hitting a large rock. When a drop of water hits the rock, it does nothing. However, if you stand at the same spot and let a thousand drops of water hit the same rock, it will eventually break. This is how the same seven daily habits have changed my life forever, and they will change your life as well!

How to Create Big Changes in Your Life through Small changes.

The impact of Daily Habits

Habits develop insidiously; they are a process of accumulation in a person’s life. Daily Improvements of 1% don’t seem like much; however doing this for one year makes A Remarkable Difference in Your Life.

Motivation is Not the Way to Go; The Importance of Consistency.

Motivation can be erratic; Habits do not Care About Your Current Condition; Hence, because they are automatic, you will do them even on a bad day. This Is Where Real Change Happens!

Habit #1: Waking up Early with Purpose. The Power of the Morning Quiet Time

Waking up early to me isn’t about belonging to the “5 AM” group; it’s about taking back my own quiet time before the rest of the world wakes up and begins to demand my attention, with all of its notifications and noise. I’ve been awakened in the early morning like this because I have been able to find clarity that I never had at any other time of the day.

I didn’t change my entire daily routine to create new patterns; instead, I created a new way of waking up each morning (and being awake): Drinking water, stretching for just five minutes, sitting quietly and breathing. These three simple activities provided me with the calmness I needed to carry on throughout my day.

Habit #2: Daily Movement is a daily way your body gets what it needs

not just exercising, but moving. After I changed my mindset about movement from “exercise = punishment” to “energy creation,” everything changed. Immediately, my mood, focus, and ability to sleep improved through my body’s ability to move more freely every day.

There are many ways to incorporate movement into your daily routine that don’t require you to be in a gym environment. Some examples include:

  • Walking after meals.
  • Stretching out in between tasks.
  • Short bursts of body weight exercises.

Habit #3: Eating Mindfully and Staying Hydrated

The way I ate played an important role in how I felt each and every day. Heavy, processed foods made me feel drained; whereas whole foods provided me with energy.

When I became aware of the relationship between my food choices and how they impacted my daily life, I was able to make healthier choices when it came to what types of foods I consumed. I started to make an effort to focus on healthy/natural foods instead of eating whatever was available to me (automatic). This small change has had a huge impact on my energy levels, cravings for unhealthy food, as well as my level of focus and concentration – all without putting any effort into it!

Habit #4: Reading every day is one way to feed your mind for growth over time

A minimum of ten pages will add up to many, many books read in a year.

Reading has changed how I make decisions and act.

Just as our bodies need food for energy, our brains need regular nutrition.

To incorporate reading into your daily routine:

Tie it to existing habits:

a) Right after breakfast

b) Before going to sleep at night

c) When you ride on public transportation

No new time was needed to create this habit.

Journaling and Planning: Writing Things Down

Habit #5: Writing down my thoughts helped me organize my brain so I could think clearly.

I felt like my brain was a computer with 50 browser tabs open-a lot of information, but no clarity.

This system provided immediate clarity.

The daily routine to Write Down Your Thoughts takes five minutes:

One thing I’m grateful for

One priority for today

One thought I need to let go of

Effective and simple.

Habit #6: Digital Detox: Create Focus Time

My phone consistently interrupts me by sending notifications and taking away my Focus.

I have dealt with a lack of concentration because I was not bored, but stimulated.

By reducing my screen time, I regained my focus.

Creating Focus in a Distracted World

Turn notifications off

Put your phone out of sight

Focus on one task at a time

Focus is now my superpower!

Habit #7: Cultivating Gratitude & Reflection on Yourself
Retraining Your Brain to See the Positive Side

Gratitude does not represent positive thoughts being placed over something bad; it helps you change your way of viewing things.

Natural Gratitude Practices

I’ve never had to force myself into gratitude, I just simply do it.

Every time I have a wonderful meal, or take some time to relax, or accomplish something, it’s almost like my life is now richer.

Make Too Many Changes Too Quickly. As you develop new habits, be sure that they’re easy enough to do even on your worst days. If they aren’t, you have way too many going on at once. Keep it simple!

Start Small, Stay Consistent

How to Maintain Your Consistency During Busy Times.

Instead of relying on my willpower to stick to my new habits, I have created a system for myself to use. For example

Do it at the same Time

Do it in the Same Place

Use the Same Trigger[s]

Because I have worked hard to establish consistency, I can maintain my progress without being overly disciplined or reliant on my willpower.

In Conclusion: The Way You Live Your Life Is a Result of What You Do Each Day

Creating new habits won’t give you a new life, but they will create a different way of thinking, feeling, and living.

There are no one-time decisions that can create your new future. It’s about creating new habits and continuing these habits for today, tomorrow and in the future.

Start with small steps and create a system. Consistency will be your greatest ally in achieving your goals.
